Day 8, A Pleasant Surprise

Today was back to the hospital amidst real trepidation about what I would find when the dressing came off.

I saw a lovely nurse who was very reassuring and happy to talk me through everything she was doing. It was a relief to get the dressing off and surprisingly there was very little pain. I saw the surgeon who was very pleased with how the eye is healing. There is very little bruising or swelling which is great. I have a conformer at the moment which is a plastic shell which sits behind the eyelid to keep it in shape and I will wear this until I have an eye made for me in a few weeks’ time.

So, all in all a pretty straightforward process. I just need to wait now for the bit of inflammation and swelling to go down. I also need time to adjust to the loss of the little light perception I had in that eye.

I certainly feel relieved now that appointment is over!

About Mel Griffiths

I live and work in Nottingham, England and am blind. This blog is often centred around things that happen to me because of being blind. This is my space to write and sometimes people will disagree with what I write, but its the one place I have in which to be frank and honest. I also like to reflect on the funnier side of life from time to time.
