For those who don’t know, Enucleation is the medical term for removal of an eye.

Since January of this year I have had terrible eye pain and a lot of treatment for it. This has included a couple of minor operations. I’ve reached the point where I feel I need to get my life back and, because I lost the remainder of my eyesight in February so the eye is no longer any use to me, the decision has been made to remove it.

In a sense I’m quite looking forward to this as eye pain day in and day out is very wearing. I can’t wait to be able to just do what I want when I want again without the pain.

I’m also hugely scared!

So I have decided to write about the next few weeks in this blog. The operation is scheduled for 21st June.

About Mel Griffiths

I live and work in Nottingham, England and am blind. This blog is often centred around things that happen to me because of being blind. This is my space to write and sometimes people will disagree with what I write, but its the one place I have in which to be frank and honest. I also like to reflect on the funnier side of life from time to time.

Thinking about you Mel, I am sure it will be a relief to get it done and get it over with. My friend had this operation a couple of years ago, she had very little pain after the operation, and her recovery was very smooth.
