Latest Eye Hospital Appointment

My most recent appointment, last Tuesday was inn no way a success. A contact lens has been made for me to attempt to correct the distorted shape of my cornea. This could give the effect of a corneal transplant without the surgery. I was concerned about wearing a lens as I wore them years ago and found them quite uncomfortable, but as I am receiving a lot of support from hospital staff this time, I had nothing to lose by giving it a go.

However, try as I might, I couldn’t get the lens in. My eyes are apparently small, and the lens is big, as I was blinking out the smaller ones when I had it fitted a few weeks ago. As it is a hard lens I couldn’t take it home to keep trying as it could damage my eye if used incorrectly.

So, I have to go back again in a week and a half’s time to try again, but I don’t hold out much hope.

All this and I don’t even know if it will improve my sight much once it is actually in as the lighting is so bad in the hospital that I couldn’t tell.

About Mel Griffiths

I live and work in Nottingham, England and am blind. This blog is often centred around things that happen to me because of being blind. This is my space to write and sometimes people will disagree with what I write, but its the one place I have in which to be frank and honest. I also like to reflect on the funnier side of life from time to time.
