Excited and a Little Nervous

Today’s the day that we go down to Gatwick to fly out to Italy tomorrow for our week in Sorrento. I’m so excited, having never been to Italy before. I’ve always wanted to go and some sunshine is definitely in order.

I’m a little nervous too. We’re going with Traveleyes, a company who specialise in group holidays where half the travellers are blind and half sighted. The sighted travellers pay a little less for their holiday and act as guides for the blind ones. This means that a lot of the time we’ll be in a group. Not being a naturally gregarious person I have some reservations about travelling in a group as I like to go off for a bit of peace and quiet sometimes on holiday.

however, the advantages will hopefully more than outnumber the disadvantages. As a blind couple we wouldn’t feel entirely comfortable travelling alone abroad so this way we get to see the sights with guides.

I won’t be writing here while I’m away but will write about the holiday when I return.

About Mel Griffiths

I live and work in Nottingham, England and am blind. This blog is often centred around things that happen to me because of being blind. This is my space to write and sometimes people will disagree with what I write, but its the one place I have in which to be frank and honest. I also like to reflect on the funnier side of life from time to time.

Hi Mel! I know you won’t read this comment till you get back to the UK, but I hope that you will have had an excellent holiday by then. I look forward to hearing about it, however good or bad it turns out to be, but I really hope things went well.
