Guide Dog – Application

My wonderful guide dog Jade is getting older now and her work is becoming inconsistent. On advice from the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, I have agreed to be assessed for a new dog. I have decided to document my application and eventual training in my journal.

I will write more about Jade another time. The assessment and matching process could take some time so she will continue to work for me at present and hopefully for a good while yet.

About Mel Griffiths

I live and work in Nottingham, England and am blind. This blog is often centred around things that happen to me because of being blind. This is my space to write and sometimes people will disagree with what I write, but its the one place I have in which to be frank and honest. I also like to reflect on the funnier side of life from time to time.

    Changing your guide dog
Hi Mel! Although I have never ad a guide dog myself, I can totally understand you feeling sad that your current dog, Jade, will soon have to retire. But you’ll still have her while the application for another dog is processed, and I wish you the very best of luck with this application.

I’ve never gone through this process before, so I can’t really comment, but I hope you have lots more time together.

bleeeeeh! Infused with all the yuckable feelings of the day.
These people need to concentrateon making things better for us, not changing what cannot be fixed! I’m getting to the point where I wish I could turn off my eyes now too! There are up sides and down sides I suppose but really, why bother with something that’s so minimal? Another rant from me.hugs and take care.

Mel,this comment of mine was supposed to go on your later entry, but the computer had a fight with my fingers and it didn’t happen. Sorry if my subject line shocked you or anything.
