Obligations as Blind Shoppers?

Thoughts after a situation in Marks and Spencer recently.

I was standing at the customer services desk in the food department having asked for assistance. In front of me there was another blind person, a gentleman. His assistant arrived first and as they were walking away, the gentleman was saying “what have you got?”

This made me cringe. I feel that, as a blind person, asking for someone to take me round, I should have a fairly good idea as to what it is I want to buy so that the assistant isn’t hours and hours looking at stuff I’ll never want.

However, on reflection, I guess that the gentleman, if he didn’t know what M and S sell, was perfectly justified in asking for a guided tour.

I’d never do it though!!

About Mel Griffiths

I live and work in Nottingham, England and am blind. This blog is often centred around things that happen to me because of being blind. This is my space to write and sometimes people will disagree with what I write, but its the one place I have in which to be frank and honest. I also like to reflect on the funnier side of life from time to time.
