Customer Service?

Another one to add to my many rants about poor customer service! Today I had to ring Rushcliffe Borough council as I owe them three days’ council tax! I told them that I’d moved house out of their area and they said they’d send me a bill for the outstanding amount. I asked if someone could please tell me over the phone what that amount would be and told them I’d be glad to pay it immediately.

I got the usual “Isn’t there anyone that can read the bill to you?” question and then a long time on hold! I was then given an estimated amount of £9.16 but no final amount as this would have to be sent to me. I again asked if someone could call with this figure to which they said that no, that wasn’t their procedure.

So, I have a very straight forward situation which I put to them. I owe them money, which I am willing to pay. However, if they can’t make one simple call to tell me exactly how much, I won’t be paying.

My friends at work are already preparing the cake with a file in it for when I get thrown in jail for non-payment!!
